Alex Strachan Cup 2005

Weston Aerobic Gymnastics Club fielded their largest squad of gymnasts at the first National Competition of the year. Held at Bracknell Leisure Centre with over 200 gymnasts competing it was always going to be a hard fought contest.

First time out for Lucy Bladon and Jade Hayes and they performed very confidently and scored 12.217 to get the silver medal, closely followed by team-mates Jessica Taylor and Ellen Owen 12.150 who won the Bronze medal in the National Development section pairs.

Jessica and Ellen were then joined by team-mate Rosie Hitchins and the three of them executed their routine beautifully scoring 12.467 to gain another bronze.

In the 12-14 year section Charlotte Davies came 6th in a field of 29 gymnasts with her highest score so far 13.900, while in the trios Olivia Owen, Flora Lacy and Charlotte White won the bronze medal on a score of 13.400.These three are going from strength to strength and look to be a great potential for the future. Martha Woodland and Tasha Weston took new team member Tasha Biss out on stage for the first time and thrilled the coaches with their performance, showing how much they are improving.

In the 15-17 age group Katherine Saunders had the highest execution and difficulty score of the day, but was unlucky to get a deduction that left her in second place with a score of 14.450. She then partnered up with Charlotte Davies to score 13.417 and get silver in the pairs, beaten by their team mates Emma Berry and Becky Rose who experience showed through to score 13.483 and got a very well deserved gold.

Also in this section the terrific experience of trio Rachel Harvey, Sadie Berry and Ness Pow overcame massive difficulties in the lead up to the competition and they were justifiably proud to score 13.817 and get the gold medal.

The senior trio Faye and Amy Cheeseborough and Emma Berry entertained the crowd and the judges scored 12.633 and got the gold medal, Faye also competed as an individual and making her mark by scoring 12.950 to get the silver medal. Although she will have to learn to control her presentation skills in future

On the second day the FIG trio Kirsty Harvey, Trina Rose and Gemma Barnfield were unplaced but performed a clean routine and hopefully will soon get the result they deserve from so much hard work.

The next big competition for the whole club is the Welsh Open in September, but before then Sadie Berry and Katherine Saunders will be travelling to Slovakia to train with the best in Europe for a week and compete in the Slovakian Open.
